Cisco and @Home Network Hit the Road to Promote High-Speed Cable Internet Products and Services

North American Internet Revolution "Roadshow" Teams @Home, Cisco, Com21, General Instrument, RCA, Samsung and Sony to Show Consumers Facts and Fun of Fast Internet Services

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., August 12, 1998 – Reaching consumers on today’s version of Main Street, @Home Network™ (Nasdaq: ATHM), the leader in high-speed Internet services via the cable infrastructure, and Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced the city line-up for "The Cisco/@Home Cable Internet Revolution Expo." With a fleet of 28-foot trucks, the tour will kick-off during the busy back-to-school season on August 21-23 at the Irvine Spectrum Center in Orange County, California and will continue until November 6-8 at the Livingston Mall in New Jersey. Visiting 12 cities in three months, the Internet Revolution Expo is expected to reach more than 360,000 consumers in shopping malls and will demonstrate the innovative and practical ways the cable industry is making the Internet readily available and more applicable to everyday life.

Tour sponsors joining @Home Network and Cisco include: Com21, General Instrument (GI), RCA, Samsung, and Sony as well as @Home’s media content partners Bloomberg, CBS Sportsline, CNNInteractive, Segasoft’s Heat.Net, Travelocity, and ZDTV. Com21, GI, RCA, Samsung, and Sony will be showcasing MCNS DOCSIS and ITU J.112 based cable modems that are expected to be available in the retail marketplace later this year. The content sponsors will be demonstrating lavish multimedia features that would drag traditional dial-up phone connections to a mind-numbing crawl, including: video-on-demand, near CD-quality audio, and enhanced multiplayer games.

"The Cable Internet Revolution Expo coincides with the excitement and preparation for the back-to-school season," said Dean A. Gilbert, senior vice president and general manager, @Home Network. "By bringing @Home directly to high traffic malls, we will allow consumers to see for themselves the rich experiences cable Internet services deliver to all members of the family, whether its getting help with homework, keeping up with the latest news, weather and sports, finding recipes or purchasing gifts online."

"Cable modems based on DOCSIS are now being commercially deployed in @Home markets," said Paul Bosco, general manager of Cisco’s Cable Products and Solutions Business Unit. "These next generation, standards-based, consumer appliances open a new world of broadband information, communications and entertainment content for @Home subscribers. Cisco and @Home are working with our partners to pioneer the transition to retail distribution of this new class of devices and services."
